Certification Exam Requirements
Before you apply for a PMI certification exam, you need to meet PMI's education, experience and training requirements. Here is a quick guide to what each exam requires. PMI makes the final eligibility decision, so always confirm the latest rules at pmi.org.
PMP (Project Management Professional)
For experienced project leaders. You need ONE of these education and experience combinations:
- High school diploma + 5 years of project experience
- Associate's degree + 4 years of project experience
- Bachelor's degree or higher + 3 years of project experience
- Degree from a PMI GAC-accredited program + 2 years of project experience
You also need 35 hours of project management training. BMT's live PMP Exam Prep Cohort includes the 35 contact hours certificate.

Great for people newer to project management.
- Secondary degree (high school diploma, GED or equivalent)
- At least 18 years old
- At least 23 hours of project management education completed before the exam
PMI-ACP (PMI Agile Certified Practitioner)
For professionals working on agile teams.
- High school diploma or higher
- ONE of: 2 years of agile experience in the past 5 years; a GAC-accredited degree plus 1 year of agile experience; a third-party agile certification plus 1 year of agile experience; or an active PMP
- 21 hours of formal agile training
