From humble beginnings in a small town in Upper Michigan to a distinguished career in the U.S. Navy and the corporate world, James’s journey is a testament to the power of continuous learning, dedication, and a commitment to excellence.
In 1986, James embarked on a 20-year adventure in the U.S. Navy, enlisting as a Cryptologic Technician Technical. This immersive experience provided a robust foundation in critical thinking, problem-solving, and leadership. Deployments spanned the globe, from the remote landscapes of Adak, Alaska, to strategically vital locations like Ft. Meade, Maryland, San Diego, California, and Diego Garcia. Serving aboard prominent naval vessels, including the USS Kitty Hawk, USS Lincoln, USS Winston Churchill, and the USS Saipan, honed James’s operational expertise.
As Operations Chief aboard the USS Saipan, James spearheaded the management of complex operations, overseeing a team of 115 sailors. This role demanded exceptional leadership skills, the ability to delegate effectively, and a relentless focus on achieving mission objectives. Prior to this, James’s diverse assignments included working in National Systems operations, serving as an Aircrewman on the ES-3A platform, and pioneering the Tactical Cryptologic Support Team, a vital initiative delivering intelligence support to Navy Special Warfare operators in the field. James’s contributions were recognized with numerous accolades, including the prestigious Defense Meritorious Service Award, alongside the Master Training Specialist (MTS) designation and the Aviation Warfare pin. These experiences solidified James’s understanding of project execution, team dynamics, and the importance of clear communication.
Retiring from the Navy in 2005, James seamlessly transitioned into the private sector, bringing invaluable leadership experience and technical skills to Scientific Research Corporation (SRC). As a Cryptologic Systems Program Manager, James was responsible for deploying, updating, and certifying critical systems aboard U.S. Navy ships, as well as training sailors on their operation. This role further reinforced James’s passion for education and knowledge sharing.
In 2008, James joined Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) as a Project Team Lead for the Distributed Common Ground System – Navy (DCGS-N) program. Leading the effort to train sailors on advanced intelligence and cryptologic analysis techniques, James played a key role in enhancing the Navy’s operational capabilities. Following SAIC’s restructuring in 2014, James transitioned to Leidos, continuing to serve as a Project Team Lead, managing a team of 15 instructors providing intelligence training to the U.S. Navy Fleet worldwide.
Alongside a successful career, James pursued academic excellence, earning a Bachelor of Science in Business Management and a Master of Management from the University of Phoenix. Demonstrating a commitment to professional development, James has earned several industry-recognized certifications, including the PMI-PMP, Google PM Certificate, CompTIA Security +, RMC Certified Trainer and RMC Certified Training Partner.
